Forest Heroes, The First Month in Photos

It’s been a little over a month since Forest Heroes organizers hit the ground in Michigan. Seems like a good time to take a look at the best photos and images that the organizers and volunteers have sent in. So here’s a quick visual tour of the campaign six weeks in.

In early September, our Forest Heroes organizers gathered with volunteers to draft some letters to the editor of local newspapers and calling other volunteers to turn them out to campaign events. Here is the gathering of the Battle Creek team.

Meanwhile, MSU area organizer Becca Neubardt talked about palm oil and the Sumatran tiger to a group of kindergarteners in East Lansing.

On September 22, in Battle Creek, 60 people turned out to a Forest Heroes Kickoff Meeting, during which they learned more about the campaign and how they could get involved and to plan next steps, including the Call-in Day of Action.

October 2nd was the big Call-in Day of Action. Here’s a volunteer rallying the public out on the street. Organizers generated nearly 600 calls to Kellogg’s in one day!

And here’s the team out around the Michigan State campus:

The MSU team even got some great coverage on the local WILX News 10 night newscast.

The next day October 3rd, the campaign made a big splash on the front page of theBattle Creek Enquirer, Kellogg’s hometown newspaper.

On Friday, October 11th, the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and the Environment held a panel about “Environmental Careers,” and Ann Arbor-based organizer Eva Resnick-Day attended the panel with several Forest Heroes volunteers. Here they are out front, but the real action came during the panel when Kellogg’s Sustainability Manager Amy Braun was asked about palm oil and the partnership with Wilmar.

The campaigning hasn’t stopped. Here’s a volunteer at the Fulton Street Farmers Market in Grand Rapids on the weekend of October 12th.
